Seyoum Eshetu Birkie is a PhD candidate in the department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering (DIG) at POLIMI, Italy and department of Industrial Economics and Management (INDEK) at KTH, Sweden in the European doctorate in Industrial Management programme (EDIM). His research interests include operations management, supply chain management and operational risk management.
Seyoum holds an Erasmus Mundus joint master's degree in Industrial Management (2009) from KTH, (Sweden), POLIMI (ITALY) and UPM (Spain). His Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering (2004) is from Mekelle University (Ethiopia). Additionally he also has taken several intensive short term trainings which, among others, include on topics of research, pedagogical (e-learning related) and leadership and performance measurement.
In 2011 Seyoum joined POLIMI and KTH for a doctoral study with fellowship from Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Scholarship Scheme allowing him to be one of the first nine PhD candidates of the EDIM programme (1st edition).
Before he joined EDIM, Seyoum has been working as academician and researcher. His teaching responsibilities included delivering lectures, assist professors, arrange and manage tutorial sessions for students at undergraduate and master's levels. Parallel to teaching, he has also been assuming different management positions (Industrial Engineering programs coordinator, Engineering college quality assurance officer, Chair holder and council of chairs member at Ethiopian Institute of Technology-Mekelle) within Mekelle University.
