2013-09-17 12.48.23During the competition his team “OptNAR” was awarded with the second place. His team also was composed by Natalia Ibañez Herrero (UPM), Adrian Marcelo Aguirre (INTEC) with the advisor Miguel Ortega Mier (UPM).
Each year, AIMMS partners with the MOPTA organization to run a worldwide OR competition in which student teams are invited to participate. The competition taxe place in Bethlehem, PA, USA.
Operation Room Management Under Uncertainty was the problem presented by the MOPTA Committee in January, for any student team in the world to solve by the June 14 deadline. This hospital operations problem challenged participating teams to consider a surgical scheduling problem. Their solution to the problem was required to utilize the AIMMS modeling platform, and had to give OR managers effective, quantitative and useful tools for managing staffing and sequences.
The winner of the competition was Alexander Tesch (ZIB, TU-Berlin) from “ORopt” team, the other finalists of the 2013 competition also included Team “OptNAR”(of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and INTEC), Team “Universiteit Twente” (of Universiteit Twente), and Team “ORTEC”(of ORTEC, University of Amsterdam).
